Weed Patch Mountain Trail Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

May 4, 2018 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Conserving Carolina and the Town of Lake Lure invite you to the grand opening of the new Weed Patch Mountain Trail and celebration of the expansion & conservation of Buffalo Creek Park.

Please join us for a ribbon cutting and celebration ceremony in Lake Lure, NC on Friday, May 4th @ 10:30 am. RSVP is requested.

This event will celebrate and formally open to the public:

  • The completion of the new 8.6-mile Weed Patch Mountain Trail, a state-of-the-art sustainable backcountry hiking and mountain biking trail–and a rock climbing spur trail–that connects the Buffalo Creek Park Loop Trail across Weed Patch Mountain to stunning Eagle Rock within Chimney Rock State Park.
  • The addition of 1,327 new acres to Buffalo Creek Park on Weed Patch Mountain, now expanding the Park to 1,527 total acres of protected, recreational parkland–making it one of the largest municipally-owned parks in North Carolina.

This trail and conservation/park project was made possible through a partnership between the Town of Lake Lure and Conserving Carolina with support and funding from the NC Parks & Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF), Recreational Trails Program (RTP) & NC Trails Program, private donors, NC State Parks, Clean Water Management Trust Fund, Carolina Climbers Coalition, and many more.
