Volunteer Workday: King Creek Stream Cleanup and Streambank Management

April 16 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Join us for a fulfilling morning of environmental stewardship at King Creek! Our volunteer workday will focus on restoring and preserving the health of this vital waterway and its surrounding riparian ecosystem. Whether you’re passionate about conservation, looking to learn about managing stormwater streams on your own property, or simply looking for a hands-on way to give back to your community, we welcome volunteers of all ages and backgrounds to participate in this rewarding event.

Activities:

  • Trash Cleanup: Help remove litter and debris from the stream and surrounding creek bank area to improve water quality and wildlife habitat.
  • Creek bank Plantings: Assist in planting potted riparian plants in spillway areas to stabilize soil, prevent erosion, and enhance biodiversity.
  • Trash Collection Netting Installation: Install trash collection netting to capture floating debris and prevent it from entering the stream, reducing pollution, and protecting aquatic life.
  • Creek Bank Reinforcement: Reinforce eroded creek banks using woody debris to prevent further erosion and promote streambank stability.
  • Invasive Plant Species Management: Identify and remove invasive plant species that threaten the health of the aquatic ecosystem, allowing native vegetation to thrive.

What to Bring:

  • Sturdy closed-toe shoes or boots.
  • Mud boots or waders for in-stream work (if you have them).
  • Comfortable clothing that can get dirty.
  • Hat and sunscreen.
  • Refillable water bottle.
  • Any snack you may require.
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm for conservation!
