Planting Butternut Tree Saplings Along the French Broad River at Pleasant Grove

**Background**
Butternut (Juglans cinerea) is a globally threatened tree species, largely due to the introduction of Thousand Cankers disease, which has significantly reduced its original range.
We will plant locally sourced, potentially resistant tree saplings along the French Broad River at our Pleasant Grove site. These saplings were grown by our Natural Resources Manager, Torry Nergart, with nuts collected from Conserving Carolina’s conservation lands.
By participating in this project, you will make a significant contribution to an ongoing effort to identify resistant trees and support our national partners with the data we collect.
Join us in this important initiative and learn more about these environmentally significant trees as we work.
We’ll supply the tools and materials. Dress appropriately for the weather conditions, and bring drinking water, snacks, and your lunch.
