Members Tour of Mouth of Mud Creek
May 21 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 amFree
Join us for a tour of the Mouth of Mud Creek property!
Located in Fletcher in Henderson County, the Mouth of Mud Creek property sits at the confluence of Mud Creek and the French Broad River. Conserving Carolina purchased the 103-acre property in 2015. In mid-2020, we conducted a full flood plain restoration over the entire 103 acres. This restoration included creation of backwater sloughs (for muskie!), ephemeral wetlands for amphibians and birds, linear wetlands to treat stormwater runoff, and installation of pollinator habitat.
Since the restoration, Conserving Carolina has been working to continue planting native plants and removing non-native invasive species. We are also working to increase native rivercane on the property that is sustainably harvested by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians for use in their artisan baskets.
The property currently hosts a river-accessed camping spot for the French Broad River Paddle Trail but does not have other public access. There are hopes for future public access on the property. In the meantime, this is a wonderful opportunity to see a beautiful piece of conserved.
Come see this beautiful property that YOU conserved and get a behind the scenes tour of a property with future public access!
