Conserving Carolina is thrilled to announce a series of four Spanish & English walks that will take place across our service region in Henderson, Transylvania, and Polk counties. These walks will all happen on public lands that Conserving Carolina has helped to create including DuPont State Recreational Forest, the Park at Flat Rock, Vaughn Creek Greenway, and the Brevard Greenway.

The first walk will be to Vaughn Creek Greenway in Polk County on Saturday, May 20th from 9AM-11AM. This easy 1.6 mile round-trip trail follows Vaughn Creek through a beautiful wooded area, with a small waterfall visible mid-trip.

On Saturday, June 24th, the walk will be at the Park at Flat Rock from 9AM-11AM. The group will explore the local park and do a plant scavenger hunt for non-native invasive species. The trails at the Park at Flat Rock are flat and wide throughout the park. The scavenger hunt will take place all over the park, and participants will learn about non-native invasive species.

The third walk will be to Wintergreen Falls in DuPont State Recreational Forest from 9AM-1PM on Saturday, July 15th. An easy to moderate trail, this 3.1 mile round-trip walk to Wintergreen Falls meanders through a shaded forest from Guion Falls Access Area.

Lastly, the Spanish/English walk series will conclude with the group will leave Henderson County for Transylvania for a walk and a bird activity on the Brevard Greenway on Saturday, August 19th from 9AM-11AM. The Brevard Greenway runs 4.8 miles from the Davidson River Campground in Pisgah National Forest to McLean Street. For this walk, the group will be exploring a total of about two and a half miles of the paved trail.

These walks are organized by our community engagement associate, Patrick McGovern, and our community engagement director, Pam Torlina – as well as some of our wonderful volunteers! RSVP’s are required. To RSVP, find the event at www.conservingcarolina.org/calendar and email Patrick@conservingcarolina.org.
