March 15, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Special Showing of

Green Fire – Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for our Time

When: Tuesday, March 15 at 7 p.m.

Where: Tryon Theatre, 45 S. Trade St., Tryon, NC 28782

Join Conserving Carolina and the Creation Care Team at the Congregational Church, UCC in Tryon for a special, free showing of the film Green Fire, the first full-length, high-definition documentary film ever made about legendary conservationist Aldo Leopold.

The Green Fire film explores Aldo Leopold’s life in the early part of the twentieth century and the many ways his land ethic idea continues to be applied all over the world today.  The film portrays how Leopold’s vision of a community that cares about both people and land — his call for a land ethic — ties modern conservation stories together and offers inspiration and insight for the future.

Green Fire illustrates Leopold’s continuing influence by exploring current projects that connect people and land at the local level. Viewers will meet urban children in Chicago learning about local foods and ecological restoration. They’ll learn about ranchers in Arizona and New Mexico who maintain healthy landscapes by working on their own properties and with their neighbors, in cooperative community conservation efforts, and they’ll meet wildlife biologists who are bringing back threatened and endangered species, from cranes to Mexican wolves, to the landscapes where they once thrived.

PLEASE NOTE:

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and in order to make this an enjoyable and educational experience for participants, space is limited to 100 and pre-registration is required. Participants must show their vaccination card or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 48 hours of the event, with a photo ID, to enter the building and all must wear a mask when indoors. Please arrive before 7 p.m. to allow time for check-in.

As of 3/7/22, due to new CDC guidelines, Conserving Carolina’s COVID policy has been updated, and – provided our county’s COVID-19 community level stays in the “medium” to “low” level, determined by the CDC – we are no longer requiring masks indoors and there is no need for proof of vaccination and/or negative test.  We are still limiting numbers to half capacity, 100.  Tryon Theatre has recently removed their masking restriction as well.  *This is subject to change if our community level increases or something unforeseen occurs with the virus.  Of course, we encourage participants to do what makes them comfortable.

Polk County is currently in the “Low” COVID-19 Community Level and the CDC’s current recommendations are:

The Box Office and theatre open a half hour before screenings. To register, scroll down and RSVP.

Concessions will be available for purchase.
