Forest Bathing: Sacred Saunter

December 10, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Online RSVP has closed for this event. However if you will still like to attend the Sacred Saunter on Sunday December 10th, please contact Mattie Decker at: (828) 333-3508! Feel free to leave a message!

“People ought to saunter in the mountains—not hike! Do you know the origin of the word ‘saunter’? It’s a beautiful word. Away back in the Middle Ages people used to go on pilgrimages to the Holy Land, and when people in the villages through which they passed asked where they were going, they would reply, ‘A la sainte terre,’ ‘To the Holy Land.’ And so they became known as sainte-terre-ers or saunterers. Now these mountains [and trees] are our Holy Land, and we ought to saunter through them reverently, not ‘hike’ through them.”

–John Muir

This special two-hour event allows for time in reflection and quiet to simply “be” in nature in the forest and along the river in this pristine setting. Mattie Decker offers these “Sacred Saunters” once monthly as an opportunity to commune and enjoy the restorative qualities of this place. Participants are welcome to bring a reading, a poem, song,— or simply come and be here, on the land.

Participant responses from “A Sacred Saunter” consistently reveal the value of this simple, quiet time in Nature. All are welcome.
