Celebrate Earth Day at Hendo Earth Fest

The City of Hendersonville Environmental Sustainability Board is hosting the 2nd annual Hendo Earth Fest in downtown Hendersonville on Earth Day from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm! Local organizations and environmental champions will educate, entertain, and raise awareness of the need to protect our planet for future generations.  This is a free, family-friendly educational event!

The festival is sponsored by the Hendersonville Environmental Sustainability Board (ESB) in association with the Team ECCO, Conserving Carolina, MountainTrue, Caregivers of Mother Earth, and the Blue Ridge Bicycle Club.

The ESB has coordinated about 45 exhibits that will educate and inform residents and visitors about our natural environment in a fun, festive atmosphere.

The Aquarium and Shark Lab by Team ECCO exhibits, located on the 500 block of Main Street, will focus on education, enrichment, and exploration of the ocean world.

The ESB exhibitors, located on the 400 block and 5th Avenue between Main Street and King Street, will provide hands-on activities and demonstrations designed to educate, renew, and expand action to protect our Western North Carolina environment and natural resources. There will also be exhibits highlighting electric transportation and green energy systems, as well as live music!

Join the Blue Ridge Bicycle Club’s “Ride to the Festival” and lock up your bike at the secure bike corral at City Hall!

Come join your friends and neighbors to celebrate Earth Day at the 2nd annual Hendo Earth Fest!

History of Earth Day:

Earth Day was a unified response to an environment in crisis — oil spills, smog, rivers so polluted they literally caught fire.

On April 22, 1970, 20 million Americans — 10% of the U.S. population at the time — took to the streets, college campuses, and hundreds of cities to protest environmental ignorance and demand a new way forward for our planet.

The first Earth Day is credited with launching the modern environmental movement, and is now recognizes as the planet’s largest civic event.

Theme in 2024:

The theme for Earth Day 2024 is Planet vs. Plastics. This theme “calls to advocate for widespread awareness on the health risk of plastics, rapidly phase out all single use plastics, urgently push for a strong UN Treaty on Plastic Pollution, and demand an end to fast fashion.”  Click here for more information.

This is about taking control of the problem of plastic that is generated, and discarded, all over the world. This is not just about generating less trash, it’s also about keeping us and the environment healthy.
