Etowah Library Speaker Series – The World of Monarch Butterflies
May 1 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
Date: May 1, 2024
Time: 10:30 a.m.
Location: Etowah Library
Speaker: Joyce Pearsall, Monarch Watch Conservation Specialist (MWCS)
This presentation will briefly discuss the Monarch life cycle, some statistics (how many this year?), where they go in the winter, then summer, and their migration routes. You’ll learn about what they have to contend with as caterpillars and then as they emerge from their chrysalises and begin their adult lives, and why milkweed is the caterpillars only food source.
Joyce is currently a volunteer for Monarch Watch as a Conservation Specialist (MWCS). She retired as a Master Gardener and from the Cradle of Forestry a few years ago. She also retired her RN license in 2017. Even though she retired from those wonderful activities, she is more focused on monarchs and their needs now. Over the years, she has gotten a lot of milkweed into the ground and assisted in creating many Monarch Waystations.
*Space is limited and pre-registration is required by visiting the Etowah Library’s calendar of events at this link. Registration opens at 10:30 am Wednesday, April 3, 2024.
The Etowah Library Speaker Series programs are made possible thanks to our partnership with the Henderson County Public Library.
