Guided Nature Walk at Walnut Creek Preserve
October 16, 2021 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm
Join Conserving Carolina for an Interpretive Nature Walk on Saturday, October 16. Naturalist Carlton Burke will lead participants on a moderate walk through a portion of the 2,100 acre preserve, discussing trees and how to identify them.
We will offer two walks, the first will be from 10:00-11:30 a.m. and the second 12:30-2:00 p.m. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and in order to make this an enjoyable and educational experience for participants, space is limited to 15 for each session and pre-registration is required. Non-vaccinated individuals should wear a mask when around the group, and participants should try to maintain a physical distance of 6 feet from people outside of their group.
Naturalist and educator Carlton Burke lives in Mills River, NC where he operates an educational service called “Carolina Mountain Naturalists” which specializes in presenting live animal and nature programs and displays for area schools, summer camps, and many other organizations. Carlton was also on staff for over 25 years as the Curator of Exhibits at the Western North Carolina Nature Center in Asheville, NC. He is also a state and federally licensed wildlife rehabilitator and can be heard each Saturday morning co-hosting NATURE NEWS, a local, hour-long radio program, featuring news from the natural world around the western NC region.
For your safety, do not attempt this activity if it is beyond your ability and experience. Participants should wear appropriate clothing and footwear and bring a mask, snack, water, and any personal medication that may be required.
In case of inclement weather, please contact Pam Torlina by e-mail, [email protected], by 8 a.m. on the day of the walk and/or check the Conserving Carolina website or Facebook page to see if the walk will take place.
Space is limited. RSVP required by email! For more information or to RSVP, email [email protected]. More information and details will follow after registration.
