Strawberry Gap Educational Hike on Hemlocks

May 25 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Please join us on Saturday, May 25th at 10:00 am for an educational hemlock hike with the Hemlock Restoration Initiative and Conserving Carolina at Strawberry Gap Trail near Gerton, NC. We will cover the ecological importance of both species of hemlock that are in WNC, what is threatening both species, what is being done about it, and more. Conserving Carolina AmeriCorps Project Conserve Trails Associate, Emma LaValley, will join to discuss the trail, the history of the property it goes through, and how Conserving Carolina is connected to trails and preserves around Western North Carolina.

Wear comfortable hiking shoes, bring plenty of water/snacks, and pack a lunch to eat at the top of Ferguson Peak.  Don’t forget to bring any medications you may need. This hike is rated strenuous.

For directions and more information about the Strawberry Gap trail, visit the Conserving Carolina website.

For any questions or to register, contact Caroline Lord at [email protected] or 828-252-4783. The hike is free to attend but your RSVP is required. Please contact Caroline to sign up by Wednesday, May 20th, and be sure to include your contact phone number, email address, and emergency contact name and contact information.
