Buffalo Creek Park Workday
May 29, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Buffalo Creek Park is located in the Hickory Nut Gorge in an area adjacent to that which burned in the 2016 Party Rock Fire. Disturbance from the fire and firelines has created ideal conditions for non-native invasive Princess Tree (Paulownia tomentosa) and Tree-of-Heaven (Ailanthus altissima) to spread rapidly. To mitigate this issue, we will be treating the mature Princess Tree and Tree-of-Heaven in Buffalo Creek Park via a hack and squirt method.
Volunteers will use hatchets and herbicide to control these trees along the trails. Volunteers should be able to hike ~2 miles in steep terrain.
Wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, and a long sleeved tshirt. Bring plenty of water and lunch. Extra water, snacks, and necessary tools will be provided.
We will be meeting at the trailhead at 10am or at the Conserving Carolina Hendersonville office to carpool at 9am.
To RSVP or for more information email volunteer@conservingcarolina.org or call Olivia at 828-697-5777 ext. 211
