Date: September 23, 2024
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Location: Transylvania County Public Library, Rogow Room
Speaker: Lizza Bixby
Join mycologist and mushroom enthusiast, Lizza Bixby, for an intriguing talk about surprise sustainability superstars: mushrooms! In this presentation Lizza will cover the diverse uses of fungi- from use as consumable food products on to nature’s MVP clean up and medical staff! Innovations in the packaging, textile and food industries concerning fungi will also be discussed. If you are passionate about the planet and curious about mushrooms, this is the place for you!
Lizza Bixby is a mycologist and mushroom enthusiast originating from the mushroom diversity capital of the world, the southern Appalachian mountains! For years she has spent countless hours learning as much about these enigmatic organisms as she can. Captivated by their abilities to feed us, clothe us, shelter us, heal us and more, Lizza is excited to share her view of the world of Mycology with you! While not mushrooming, Lizza might be found offering massage and yoga classes, tie dyeing, hiking or dancing!
The Brevard Speaker Series programs are made possible thanks to our partnership with the NC Cooperative Extension, Transylvania County Center.
