Investing in Nature to Make Us Safer and Stronger
At Conserving Carolina, as we come back from Hurricane Helene, we are looking forward, toward a hopeful future. Helene was a wake-up call that we need to do more to reduce climate change. And it showed how important it is to invest in nature. During Helene, just three of our natural floodplain restorations stored 1.25 billion gallons of floodwater—a powerful demonstration of how much we need nature on our side.
Putting Hope Into Action
We debuted a short film called “Growing Resilience“ at our annual Conservation Celebration, highlighting how your support makes our region more resilient. By partnering with us, you are putting hope into action. You are growing resilience by:
- Bringing back natural areas along rivers to absorb water and reduce flooding.
- Reducing droughts by restoring natural floodplains that store water like a sponge.
- Protecting forests that offer an important natural climate solution, locking in carbon.
- Providing wildlife habitat, so wild creatures have a better chance to adapt to changing conditions.
- Creating more places for people to connect with nature, which gives us more inner strength, more health and energy, more common ground, and more creativity to solve problems.
This work ensures our communities are better prepared for the challenges ahead. We invite you to take a few minutes to watch the stories in our film, “Growing Resilience,” to see the powerful impact you are making.
Thank you for being a part of Conserving Carolina! Your commitment is what allows us to continue growing resilience.
