Summer Lady Slipper Award
Introducing our Summer Lady Slipper Award recipient, Duane Bowker! Duane has been a volunteer with Conserving Carolina for 3 years. He has attended almost every Stewardship workday that has been held. He has removed a tremendous amount of non-native invasive plants on our properties as well as volunteered with litter cleanups, photography needs, and tabling.
He first became involved from viewing a CMLC trail marker while hiking. He had been looking for an organization to get involved with since moving to Brevard from New Jersey where he volunteered for stream and litter cleanups often.
Duane’s most rewarding volunteer experience has been working on the same lands and noticing the impact his volunteer work is having, now you can see native plants taking the place of non-native invasive plants. The woods and the people motivate Duane to continue all his hard work with Conserving Carolina. He hopes that Conserving Carolina will continue to protect more beautiful places, especially places that he can take hikes on. In his free time you can almost always find him hiking with his dog and wife taking beautiful photos of nature.
Thank you Duane for all that you do for Conserving Carolina!
