Originally from Greensboro, Wood graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2013 with a BS in environmental science. Though his original plans pointed toward a career in glacial hydroclimatology, he took the scenic route – spending the next decade on tour with his band, watching the world pass by through van windows, bright lights, and thick smoke. When the music settled down he found his way back to the natural sciences through land protection work at a land trust in Utah. Fulfilling as the American West proved to be, the Old North State eventually called him home, and in 2026 he joined Conserving Carolina.

He is also pursuing a master’s in spatial data science, studying multiparameter predictors for forest change in the wake of Hurricane Helene using satellite imagery. Outside of work, Wood loves playing bass and banjo, mountain biking, trail running, fly fishing, and spending time with his daughter Iris, wife Katie, and dog Juno.
