Pam is a biologist and environmental educator with more than 30 years of experience working in conservation as a field biologist, naturalist, and outdoor educator for all ages. She has been with Conserving Carolina for more than 20 years, where she inspires people of all ages to connect with nature while helping protect the lands and waters of the Southern Appalachians.
Pam received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of South Carolina Upstate. Throughout her career, she has worked with the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, the City of Greenville Parks and Recreation–Youth Bureau, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Reserve Ltd. in Ontario, Canada.
Although her love of the natural world knows no bounds, Pam has a special passion for birds. She has conducted migratory and breeding bird surveys, nocturnal owl, hawk, and woodpecker surveys, presented educational programs for adults and children, conducted nest searches and nest record monitoring in both the United States and Canada, participated in data collection for the Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas and the North Carolina Bird Atlas, and she has volunteered with a licensed bird bander.
Beyond birds, Pam is passionate about native plants and the vital role they play in supporting healthy ecosystems. She enjoys growing native plants at home and working with schools, community organizations, and volunteers to create habitats that support pollinators and other wildlife. She believes that fostering a connection to nature—whether through conservation, education, or hands-on habitat restoration—is one of the best ways to build healthy communities and inspire future generations of environmental stewards.
When she’s not working, Pam enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, Steve. Together they love traveling whenever they can break away from work, exploring the world by land and water through hiking, camping, backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, and discovering new places. Pam is also the proud mother of her daughter, Jade, and a delighted grandmother. With her family living nearby, she treasures every opportunity to spend time with them.
