As development coordinator, Melissa supports Conserving Carolina’s advancement by building relationships with donors and volunteers, managing the gift acknowledgement process, and organizing fundraisers and friend-raisers. She has a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Florida and a Master of Social Work degree from Barry University. After college, she lived in a tent for three years while leading canoeing, backpacking, and sailing courses for Hurricane Island Outward Bound School in Florida and Maine. Melissa served as an AmeriCorps member during graduate school and her first career as a clinical social worker led to her second career in nonprofit development. She worked for North Carolina Outward Bound School as the director of Charlotte advancement and most recently, she worked for Davidson College as the communications and administrative coordinator for The Office of Annual Giving. Melissa loves hiking, mountain biking, and swimming in her free time.
