Growing up in the Blue Ridge mountains of Western Virginia, Leila has fond memories of spending long summer days turning over rocks to find salamanders, wading in cold creek beds, and climbing any tree with a low enough branch to grab onto. That love of the outdoors was not lost into adulthood. She studied Sustainable Biomaterials and Green Engineering at Virginia Tech’s College of Natural Resources and Environment. After graduation, she served as an Americorps VISTA in Flagstaff, Arizona working with the city’s land conservation program. Aside from work, Leila is an ultra-endurance mountain biker who loves spending long days pedaling in the mountains and is loves working for an organization that protects and preserves these very lands today and for generations to come.
