Happy Retirement to Lynn Killian!

Lynn Killian at Dupont

We wish a happy retirement to our development director Lynn Killian who will be retiring at the end of the year!

Lynn worked with many of you on some of our landmark conservation successes. When she looks back on her eleven years at Conserving Carolina, some of her proudest accomplishments include working with Conserving Carolina’s staff and the Lyda family to protect Bearwallow Mountain and expanding our trail network in the Hickory Nut Gorge. Lynn led a successful fundraising campaign that allowed us move forward on Wildcat Rock TrailWeed Patch Mountain TrailYoungs Mountain Trail, and Strawberry Gap Trail, thanks to many generous donors! An ambitious vision less than a decade ago, all of these trails are now open for the public to enjoy.

In addition, Lynn is grateful to everyone who has stepped up to help create a stronger base of support for Conserving Carolina. In her time with Conserving Carolina, our donors substantially increased both annual giving and land project funding. With Lynn’s creation of the Summits Society and her encouragement, the number of major donors more than tripled. In addition, the number of donors planning an estate gift, who are recognized in our Land Legacy League, more than quadrupled. Lynn leads by example and is not only a Conserving Carolina donor but also a member of the Land Legacy League.

Executive director Kieran Roe says, “I am deeply grateful for all that Lynn has brought to Conserving Carolina in her 11 years as development director.  She has brought our fundraising and development programs to a new level.  We’ll miss her on staff but wish her all the best in the next phase of her life.”

Conserving Carolina will remain in good hands as Jenn Tutor, a longtime member of our fundraising team will be taking on the role of Development Director. We are also planning to hire a Major Gifts Officer who will help to secure the strong foundation of support we need to continue achieving our conservation mission.
