Walk, Learn, Restore: Exploring the Floodplain

Where: Deerwoode Reserve
Meet: 395 Riversedge Rd, Brevard, NC 28712
Time: 10:00 am
Distance and difficulty: Easy
Join us for a three-part Walk & Learn series at Deerwoode Reserve in Brevard, and experience floodplain restoration as it happens. These guided walks invite you onto a protected property conserved through a Conserving Carolina conservation easement, offering a rare, behind-the-scenes look at how healthy floodplains are restored and why they matter.
Each walk is about one hour and takes place at a different stage of the project:
- Walk One, February 14: Before Restoration – Explore the site as it exists today and learn about the history and present use of the property, floodplains, past impacts, and the goals of the restoration work.
- Walk Two, March 28: Midway Through Restoration – See the project in progress and learn about the techniques, challenges, and early changes taking shape on the landscape.
- Walk Three, June 27: After Completion – Return to witness the finished restoration and discuss how the floodplain will continue to heal and function over time.
Whether you join for one walk or all three, this series offers a unique opportunity to walk the land, learn from the process, and connect with the story of restoration in real time.
*Space is limited and pre-registration is required, and space is limited to 30 participants. Registration, by RSVP below.
