Where: Swiftwater Farm, private property

Meet: Katydid Lane, Mill Spring, NC, at 8:45 a.m.

Distance and difficulty: 5 miles, moderate, loop

This hike will take place on private property next to the Green River in Mill Spring, NC, below the Lake Adger dam. Join us to celebrate autumn and Halloween! What better way to celebrate YOU, our volunteers, All Hallows’ Eve, and the change of the seasons and glory of autumn leaf color!

Join us at Swiftwater Farm for a scenic 5 mile trail featuring stunning mountain vistas overlooking the Lake Adger Dam. Then descend into the ravine where you will walk along Hitching Creek observing lovely ground cedar, rhododendron, and large rock outcroppings. Cross over into another ravine along natural springs and creeks where you witness remnants of past gold mining history. Following the creek leads you to a 1 mile stretch along the Green River where you will see signs of the grain milling history. From the Green River, we will cross over the mountain along more creeks and springs to complete our loop trail.

Be sure to wear appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear. Bring a snack and plenty of water for yourself.

In case of inclement weather, please contact Pam Torlina by email at: pam@conservingcarolina.org by 8:00 a.m. on the day of the hike and/or check the Conserving Carolina website ‘calendar’ to see if the hike will take place. Please also remember to bring any medication that you may need in the event of an emergency (ie: epinephrine, nitroglycerine, insulin, etc.). Hike leaders will carry a first aid kit; however, it may not contain specific medication for your individual needs.

Before the hike, you will be asked to sign a waiver form. For your safety, do not attempt any hike beyond your ability and experience.
