Tracking Our Tributaries: Exploring Mud Creek along the Oklawaha Greenway
You’re Invited on a Walk-n-Talk Along the Greenway
On Tuesday, June 10th, at 9:00am join Mike Huffman, the City of Hendersonville’s Stormwater and Floodplain Administrator, for a walk entitled Tracking Our Tributaries: Exploring Mud Creek along the Oklawaha Greenway. Participants will meet at the round gazebo at Patton Park.The early start time of 9:00am was set to avoid the summer heat. It happens rain or shine, and will last an hour and a half.
Huffman will talk about, and point out as he walks, where the major floodwaters came from during Hurricane Helene. He will explain where the water goes when it rains, and answer questions about his work in stormwater and floodwater management.
Join the Friends of the Oklawaha Greenway on this walk to learn about your ecological address. Most likely, you live in the Mud Creek Watershed, a 113 square mile area located within central Henderson County and encompassing the municipalities of Hendersonville, Laurel Park, and Flat Rock. It consists of five sub-watersheds: Upper Mud Creek, Lower Mud Creek, Bat Fork, Devil’s Fork, and Clear Creek.
