This Forest Lifeways discussion explores the myriad lifeforms and lifeways of the forest from a naturalist’s perspective. From fungi to flora to fauna, we will first take a bird’s eye view of the intricate web of forest life. In the second part, we will delve into the ways that people have lived with, stewarded and been part of these very special places from early on, up to the present day. Shelter, water, food, medicine, materials, and deep connection are all ways that humans always have and continue to benefit from one of the greatest strongholds of life on this earth: our incredible forests.

Sara lives among three creeks, deep in the forest of Bat Cave, NC. As a student of nature, she is profoundly grateful to gain and offer her understanding as a naturalist, educator and photographer. Along with family life in the forest and raising a future steward, she is a conservationist, advocate and resource creator who assists nonprofits, groups and programs in the areas of conservation, forest farming, education and more. Her favorite topics are forest botanicals, ecology, foraging, ethnobotany and traditional medicines.

Guests will park in the orchard at Laughing Waters Retreat, accessed from the address below, and walk up a little hill and gravel driveway to the pavilion.  If anyone has mobility challenges, there is the opportunity to be dropped off closer to the pavilion.
