Planting Cane Adventure at Pleasant Grove: Creating a Mountain Canebrake Natural Community
Rain/freeze date is February 20
Meeting Place: Pleasant Gove: https://maps.app.goo.gl/5VgFXsEKBhTA7iLt5
Torry Nergart, our Natural Resources manager, is seeking six volunteers to help plant river cane at Pleasant Grove. He will launch a canoe to ferry equipment and people to the job site (therein the adventure aspect). We will not be doing any swift-water boating; instead, we will be floating gear for about 100 feet.
Wellies will be provided, but please bring your own wellies, muck boots, or waders if you have them. You will only need them for a portion of the approximately quarter-mile flat hike in. We will install approximately 50 bare-root, one-year-old Giant River Cane plants to establish a new Mountain Canebrake Natural Community. Tory will regale us with the natural heritage and history of the plant species when we break for lunch.
Bring your lunch, plenty of water for drinking, and snacks.
