September 16 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Date: September 16, 2025
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Location: Landrum Library
Speaker: Evangaline LaMore
The Eastern Bluebird, a cavity nester that was once widespread throughout North America, experienced a notable decrease in its population during the early 20th century. This decline was largely attributed to habitat loss caused by the invasion of non-native species such as European Starlings and House Sparrows, which competed fiercely for nesting locations. However, due to conservation initiatives, such as the extensive use of nest boxes, their numbers have significantly recovered in recent decades, highlighting a successful example of human efforts in bird conservation. The North American Bluebird Society, established in 1978, was instrumental in protect bluebird populations. During this presentation, you will learn about the history of the Eastern Bluebird in North America and the role of the North American Bluebird Society and its primary goal, to protect bluebird populations through education, research, and promoting the installation of bluebird nest boxes.
