Landrum Library Summer Reading Program – Mushrooms: what they are, why they are so awesome, and how to grow them!

June 13, 2023 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Date: June 13, 2023

Time: 10:30 a.m.

Location: Landrum Library

Speaker: Lizza Bixby of Mushroom Mountain

As part of the Landrum Library Summer Reading Program for kids, ages 6-12 years old, Lizza will talk about what exactly mushrooms are (plants/animals/fungi) and how they help our bodies and our environment. She will also discuss mushroom safety when encountering them in the wild. Kids will learn about growing mushrooms and they’ll be invited to make take home Oyster Mushroom fruiting cups!

This is a hands on and interactive program so bring the kids!  This is sure to be fun for the whole family!

Lizza is an avid mushroom lover and believes in their power to shape and save not only us but our environment. She is passionate about enjoying and sharing the goodness of the natural world. We have so much to be grateful for! Lizza is most excited about cultivating mushrooms, and helps teach workshops at Mushroom Mountain. She also leads all of the homeschool and kid’s tours at Mushroom Mountain. While not mushrooming, Lizza enjoys making tie dye, hiking, playing flute and dancing.
