Litter from non-point sources makes its way through the watershed to the ocean. As it travels, this litter can be broken down into smaller and smaller pieces until they can be nearly impossible to remove from the water causing issues for people and wildlife alike. What problems does this cause and how can we put a stop to it? We need to catch the trash that floats downstream and we can do so with a new contraption…the WaterGoat!
Beth grew up in Villanova, PA steeped in natural science with both parents being biology teachers by trade and nature lovers by choice. She spent her childhood exploring the Susquehanna River watershed with her older brother. Through high school and college, Beth utilized her summers teaching nature, survival skills, pioneer craft and Native American lore as well as high ropes, canoeing and backpacking at camps. After graduating from Western Maryland College with a BA in Elementary Education and Studio Arts she began a career in Environmental Education moving around the country learning about many different ecosystems while teaching school students appreciation for natural resources. Before marrying and moving to Vermont to take care of family, Beth directed the River Ridge Environmental Education Program in Ten Mile, TN. In 2003 while expecting their daughter, Carolina, Clint and Beth moved to Boiling Springs where they enjoy their almost 2 acre homestead with gardens, chickens, vineyard and young orchard. Beth volunteers with the Opossum Society of the US, housing a non-releasable, educational opossum named Mimikkyu. Beth has been with the Conservation District since October of 2020.
