Date: September 19, 2024
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Speaker: Brad Nelson
This program will be great for all ages and introduce basic information about butterflies and some of the species common in our area with a focus on the Monarch butterfly. Keeping it fun and entertaining, Brad will discuss the Monarchs life cycle, different types of milkweed common in our area, and which milkweeds are more likely to attract Monarchs. He will also provide gardening techniques that will help attract Monarchs, describing specific types of plants that are best for the enticing them and which are better to help perpetuate the species. The presentation will also include explanation of migration routes and when to expect Monarchs in this area. This is sure to be a great program for the whole family, so bring the kids!
Brad has been involved with Monarch Watch, the University of Kansas tagging program, for the last 5 years. He raises Monarchs through September, a culmination of a release of about 150 tagged butterflies that will journey to Mexico.
The Landrum Library Speaker Series programs are made possible thanks to our partnership with the Spartanburg County Public Libraries.
