Landrum Library Speaker Series: Beneficial Bats

Speaker: Pam Torlina, community engagement director for Conserving Carolina
This program explores the fascinating world of bats, highlighting their incredible adaptations, ecological importance, and the challenges they face. Participants will learn about the diverse bat species found in the Carolinas, how bats use echolocation to hunt insects, the impacts of White-nose Syndrome, and simple ways people can help protect these beneficial nighttime pollinators and natural pest controllers.
Pam Torlina is the Community Engagement Director at Conserving Carolina. With over 30 years of experience as a field biologist, naturalist, and outdoor educator, Pam has dedicated two decades to advancing the Conservancy’s mission in the Carolinas. She holds a B.S. in Biology from the University of South Carolina Upstate, and before joining Conserving Carolina she worked with a variety of conservation and education organizations — including New York State Office of Parks and Recreation, South Carolina State Parks, the City of Greenville Parks & Recreation Youth Bureau, and Haliburton Forest in Ontario, Canada.
