Land conservation is important to Henderson County residents. Current data gathered during the Comprehensive Planning process has indicated a theme of land conservation priorities in Henderson County. Two of the three top growth-related concerns were identified as loss of farmland and/or impacts to natural resources and changes in community character. Additionally, the top two priorities identified by Henderson County survey participants were to protect open space and forest and to protect unique natural areas and farmland.
In this presentation, Tom will speak to these priorities, discussing land conservation, including farm preservation, in Henderson County. In his presentation, Tom will talk about Conserving Carolina’s work in protecting both public and private land and how these efforts benefit residents in the present and for perpetuity.
Tom Fanslow has been with Conserving Carolina since 2004 and has been the Land Protection Director there since 2006. Tom received his JD from University of Georgia School of Law in 1996 and worked on coastal conservation issues before coming to Conserving Carolina as an AmeriCorps Project Conserve member.
