Connie Backlund spent her 38-year career with the National Park Service working in a variety of our country’s national parks.  She has always been partial to those parks in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and most recently she served as Park Superintendent at Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site in Flat Rock, NC.  She has a Bachelor of Science in Education degree with a biology major and a math minor from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.

Connie grew up on her family farm in Ohio where her love of nature was cultivated by being the little shadow of her dad who knew all the birds, trees, and wildflowers in the two woods of their 100-acre farm.  She is most grateful to have kept her family farm and to continue stewarding the land and preserving its natural heritage.  Recently a portion of cropland has been planted as a prairie with warm-season grasses and native wildflowers.  Already it is buzzing and singing with a wonderful array of pollinators and birds.
