Pat was lucky enough to grow up in the suburbs of Chicago next to a forest preserve, where he spent many days exploring the creeks, woods, and meadows. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, earning a bachelor’s degree in print journalism. He has performed every role at a community newspaper, from reporter to copy editor to photographer. Prior to waving the white flag at Chicago winters and moving to Asheville in 2014, Pat worked for a union labor newspaper where he photographed many protests and interviewed too many politicians. He lives in Fairview with his wife, two daughters and dog, and spends his time hiking and camping with his family. His work has appeared in USA Today, Buzzfeed, Land Magazine, Food and Wine Magazine, In These Times, Edible Asheville, the Asheville Citizen-Times, and Mountain Xpress, among others.
