Laura grew up in Lexington, KY, and moved to Asheville in 2014 to pursue a BS in Environmental Studies from UNC Asheville. She’s always felt joy being around mountain streams and fell in love with WNC and the unique habitats found here. Laura’s passions split between aquatic habitats and waste reduction. While in college, she interned with the NC Wildlife Commission Aquatics Division- focusing on propagating, surveying, and restocking WNC mussel species of concern. Along with being a chairperson for Asheville’s Plastic Reduction Task Force, Laura also has spent several years volunteering with the Sierra Club and the WNC Nature Center. She spent her first AmeriCorps position as AGW Water Quality Coordinator and now is excited to return for her second year as CC’s Habitat Restoration Associate. In her free time, Laura loves live music, crafting, outdoor rec, looking for critters, and chasing waterfalls.
