Kahawis was born and raised on the Akwesasne Mohawk Territory, located in upstate NY and in portions of Canada. Kahawis’s parents instilled a love and appreciation for all aspects of Mother Earth at a very young age, fortunately exploring and learning about the beautiful Adirondack mountains that we called home.
She began working outdoors after graduating high school through an American Conservation Experience internship at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This experience sparked a passion for environmental stewardship and love for the mountains of North Carolina which kickstarted three consecutive American Conservation Experience college internships, first in Vegetation Management then in Environmental Education. She loves; hiking, kayaking, biking, fishing, reading, and eating in her free time.
Most recently completed her A.S. Health Science degree at North Country Community College, she can not contain her nervousness and excitement to begin her commitment as an Environmental Educator for the Project Conserve Program at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
