Joey grew up in Wisconsin and received her psychology degrees in New York before moving to North Carolina. The arts were primary loves growing up and nature exploration was often through books and shows like Natural Geographic. Once she became a mother, her journey to more directly explore the natural world with her son began in earnest. From marveling at flora and fauna together in the city to summer vacations hiking and exploring national and state parks, many beautiful memories were made while appreciation of nature grew. After a career supporting families of young children with special needs, she was an elementary school teacher, embracing opportunities to discuss and explore nature. She is excited to continue learning while supporting communities to explore, appreciate and protect nature. Free time is spent hiking, reading, taking yoga and other classes, and spending time with her amazing family and friends.
