Growing up in Philadelphia, PA, Ellianna’s first experiences of the environment were through an urban lens. This shaped much of her initial involvement and understanding of environmental work. Ellianna’s previous environmental work centered around urban communities’ access to greenspace as well as access to local, affordable, culturally desirable food. She also worked as an environmental educator in kindergarten up to high school classroom settings. These experiences fostered her enjoyment of connecting with people around their experience with the natural environment. Upon moving to Asheville and starting work with the Warren Wilson College Landscape Crew, her interests led her to native landscaping and non-native invasive plant control. She is excited to continue that work throughout her time with AmeriCorps. She is especially jazzed about partnering with community members to empower them to be their own land stewards. She believes conservation is dependent upon community collaboration and is excited to broaden those networks throughout her term.
