Catie grew up in Waxhaw, North Carolina and graduated from Davidson College in 2017 with a B.S. in Environmental Studies and Hispanic Studies. During her first semester in college, she took a wilderness leadership skills course on a whim and discovered a love of the outdoors, particularly as a space to connect with people, teach leadership, and build community. She expanded this interest into her studies, doing research on the impacts of land use on stream and ecosystem health and on the socioeconomic impacts of national park closures on local communities. After graduating from Davidson, Catie spent a year working for an environmentally-focused study abroad program in Costa Rica, learning about how Costa Rica manages its natural resources and trying to not get bit by too many mosquitos. She returned to North Carolina in the fall of 2018 to serve as the Outings and Education Coordinator for MountainTrue and is excited to be sticking for a second term. When she isn’t walking around with a mug of tea or reading outside, you’ll find Catie climbing, quilting, or trying to find ways to keep speaking Spanish.
