Teaching and Research Reserve Workday
October 19, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
In November of 2017, the Party Rock Fire burned over 7,000-acres in the Hickory Nut Gorge. About 180-acres of our HNG Teaching and Research Reserve burned during this time. Although we are still assessing and learning about the positive and negative effects of this occurrence, we quickly realized that several non-native invasive species (NNIS) were going to flourish. In certain areas of the property, the understory is carpeted with Princess Tree seedlings. If these seedlings are left to grow and flourish, the unique biodiversity of this property will be severely compromised. During this workday we will target seedling Princess Trees; hand pull them from the ground and bag them. The work will take place off trail in steep and sometimes loose terrain.
Meet at Mt Tabor Way, Hendersonville, NC (Right hand side in front of metal gate) at 10AM.
Wear sturdy hiking shoes/boots, long sleeves and long pants, and bring plenty of water and lunch.
