October 12, 2019 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
Date: October 12, 2019
Time: 10:30 a.m.
Speaker: Evan Parker
In the modern world, agriculture is a double edged sword. It is a miracle that allows us to feed billions of people. Yet, it is likely the most environmentally destructive human activity on the planet. This poses one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century. How do we continue to feed a growing human population while reducing the environmental impacts of agriculture? In this presentation, Evan Parker explores one of the most promising strategies for meeting this challenge: plant-based diets. Join us and discover how adopting a plant-based diet may be the single most impactful action you can take to cultivate a sustainable society.
Evan Parker is currently the Executive Assistant at Conserving Carolina, a land trust in Hendersonville, NC. In addition, Evan recently completed his M.S. in Sustainability Studies from Lenoir-Rhyne University. His master’s thesis explored the intersections between veganism and sustainability. Evan is particularly knowledgeable about the environmental impacts of animal agriculture, and the environmental benefits associated with transitions to plant-based diets. While Evan is an environmental professional, he views veganism as both a necessary social justice philosophy and as a powerful strategy for sustainability. Overall, Evan is interested in cultivating a sustainable world in which all life has the ability to flourish.
