King Creek Volunteer Workday

November 21, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Background Info:

King Creek Preserve contains a diversity of plant and animal species endemic to Western North Carolina. It was permanently protected by Conserving Carolina in 2018 to conserve vital stream and wetland habitats. Since it’s protection, Conserving Carolina had implemented several habitat restoration projects including native vegetation thinning and non-native invasive plant control.

Workday Description:

Volunteers will work with Conserving Carolina staff to control non-native invasive plants impacting the important natural communities present at King Creek Preserve. Invasive plants such as multiflora rose, privet, English ivy, and Japanese honeysuckle, among others, will be removed by hand pulling or by cutting them at their base and applying a small amount of herbicide to the cut surface.
All tools, gloves, and safety equipment will be provided. Plant ID and removal/control techniques will be taught on-site. You will get dirty, so make sure to dress appropriately.

What to Wear:

Face mask (for close conversations), work pants, long sleeves, and close-toed shoes; dress for the weather.

What to Bring:

Drinking water, snacks/lunch, work gloves (if you have a personal pair), and a small backpack.

RSVP below

RSVPs will close on 11/19/21 at noon. For more information, email [email protected] or call Gabe at 828-697-5777 ext. 222.
