Cherokee People and Invasive Species with Basket Maker and Cherokee Storyteller, Nancy Basket

November 11, 2017 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Learn local historical facts you never knew you never knew. Contemplate ageless teaching stories. Convert kudzu into a small nest that will hold jelly bean eggs. Come prepared with questions.

Nancy Basket helped form the first modern basketry guild in Seattle in 1980, moved to SC ten years later and teaches in public schools as an artist in education since then. She makes pine needle and kudzu baskets large and miniature, lamp shades, paper designs, kudzu cloth and large 8′ sculptures depicting Cherokee stories. All can be seen at her shop in Walhalla. Her last name and Cherokee heritage is from her father’s line and she frequently tells stories at powwows.
