Adopt-a-Highway Clean-up/ Hike up Bearwallow Mountain

December 2, 2017 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Join Conserving Carolina and fellow community members to clean up our roadways! Volunteers will be picking up trash and recycling along our section of adopted highway on South Mills Gap. We will have a trash scavenger hunt to see who can collect everything on the list!

Optional: Reward yourself with a hike on one of our conserved properties, Bearwallow Mountain, after the clean up!  It is a two mile round trip, moderate hike. From the grassy meadow summit at 4,232 feet, you can see some of the southern Appalachians highest peaks including Mt. Mitchell and Mt. Pisgah. Its breathtaking vista also includes a birds-eye view of Hickory Nut Gorge, downtown Hendersonville, and the lowlands of South Carolina. The trail head is a short drive from the Adopted Highway and we will carpool there right after the clean-up after we eat lunch.

Wear long pants and closed toe shoes and bring plenty of water (if choosing to do the hike afterwards: bring your own lunch). Gloves, vests, trash bags, snacks, and extra water will be provided.

We will meet at the Conserving Carolina, Hendersonville office at 10:30 AM to carpool or at the gas station parking lot at the intersection of Chimney Rock Road/64 and South Mills Gap at 11:00 AM.

The cleanup will be from 11:00AM- 1:00PM.

If choosing to do the hike we will be back at the intersection around 3:30 PM and back at the office around 4:00 PM if carpooling.
