Melrose Falls Volunteer Workday

July 15 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Melrose Falls Kudzu Workday

*RSVP Required*

Background Info:
The Melrose Falls Property is a ~100 acre preserve, housing rare endemic plant species, such as Wild Ginger, and a diverse array of spring wildflowers. 0.5mi down the trail, is a stunning 50ft waterfall that feeds into the North Pacolet River.

Workday Description:
We will be preserving the unique biodiversity of the Melrose Falls property through non-native invasive species removal. In the morning, we will be removing Japanese Kudzu through vine cutting and crown removal – some direct applications of herbicide may be used. Then we will break for lunch by the Melrose waterfall. Following lunch, we will spend our afternoon removing English Ivy through hand pulling, vine cutting, and some direct applications of herbicide.
Volunteers must be able to walk moderate distances across rough terrain. All tools and gloves will be provided. Plant ID and removal techniques will be taught on-site. You will get dirty, so make sure to wear appropriate clothing.
