PLEASE BRING CASH IN THE EXACT AMOUNT for yourself on the day of the hike. \nJoin us for a scenic hike to Raven Cliff Falls\, one of the Upstate’s most spectacular waterfalls! We’ll wind through a beautiful forest in the Matthews Creek watershed\, enjoying lush vegetation\, mountain views\, and the sights and sounds of the surrounding forest before reaching a viewing platform to see the falls. Raven Cliff Falls plunges an estimated 420 feet from Raven Cliff Mountain along the Blue Ridge Escarpment\, where the Blue Ridge Mountains drop dramatically toward the Piedmont below. Named for the ravens that nest in the high cliffs around the falls\, Raven Cliff Falls is one of South Carolina’s most scenic waterfalls! Come explore this popular trail and experience the beauty of the Southern Appalachians along the way! \n*Space is limited and pre-registration is required\, and space is limited to 20 participants. DESCRIPTION:Photo credit: AllTrails.com \nWhere: Graveyard Fields to the upper falls \nMeet: Ironwood Square\, Conserving Carolina’s office\, 847 Case Street\, Hendersonville\, NC\, at 8:30 a.m. \nDistance and difficulty: 3.3–miles\, moderately strenuous; trail type-lollipop \nElevation gain: 416′ \nApproximately 1 hour drive \nJoin us for a beautiful hike through the high-elevation landscape of Graveyard Fields\, where open meadows\, mountain streams\, and surrounding peaks create a uniquely scenic setting. We’ll follow the Graveyard Fields Loop to the Upper Falls Trail\, winding through a scenic forest alongside Yellowstone Prong creek to the Upper Falls\, a magnificent cascade. We’ll then retrace our steps before continuing along the loop to Second Falls\, enjoying cascading water\, rhododendron-lined trails\, and the natural beauty of this special landscape along the Blue Ridge Parkway. \nHikers should expect a few creek crossings\, and waterproof boots are recommended. The trail winds alongside streams\, through lush rhododendron and hardwood forests\, climbing to the expansive granite face of John Rock. From the overlook\, hikers are rewarded with spectacular views of Looking Glass Rock\, Pilot Mountain\, and the surrounding mountains…hopefully in their autumn glory! \nThis fairly challenging loop offers a wonderful mix of forests\, flowing water\, mountain scenery\, and one of Pisgah’s most impressive viewpoints. Hikers should be prepared for a sustained climb\, stream crossings\, and uneven\, rocky terrain. Please use caution near the exposed rock face\, where steep drop-offs are present. \n*Space is limited and pre-registration is required\, and space is limited to 20 participants. DESCRIPTION:Where: Trombatore Trail \nMeet: Ironwood Square\, Conserving Carolina’s office\, 847 Case Street\, Hendersonville\, NC\, at 8:30 a.m. \nDistance and difficulty: 4.8–miles\, moderately strenuous; trail type-out and back \nElevation gain: 1\,223′ over 1.6 miles \nApproximately 35 minute drive \nJoin us for a scenic 4.8-mile out-and-back hike along the Trombatore Trail near Bearwallow Mountain. The trail winds through a beautiful hardwood forest\, crossing clear mountain streams and passing a magnificent buckeye tree estimated to be more than 150 years old. After a vigorous climb with approximately 1\,223 feet of elevation gain\, we’ll arrive at Blue Ridge Pastures—a beautiful grassy bald offering sweeping\, panoramic views across Hickory Nut Gorge and Bearwallow Mountain. \nThis moderately strenuous-to-strenuous hike offers a wonderful mix of forest\, mountain streams\, wildlife habitat\, and expansive mountain scenery. We’ll also keep an eye out for the changing colors of autumn along the way! \n*Space is limited and pre-registration is required\, and space is limited to 20 participants. DESCRIPTION:Where: Little White Oak Mountain \nMeet: Ironwood Square\, Conserving Carolina’s office\, 847 Case Street\, Hendersonville\, NC\, at 8:30 a.m. \nDistance and difficulty: 3.5–miles\, moderate; trail type-figure eight-ish \nElevation gain: 390′ \nApproximately 30 minute drive \nJoin us for a 3.5-mile hike through the scenic Little White Oak Mountain trail system in Mill Spring. We’ll wind our way through hardwood and pine forests\, along quiet coves and ridgelines\, and across clear mountain streams as we explore a variety of natural-surface trails. \nThe route offers a little bit of everything—from the steady climb of The Escalator to the rolling paths of Laurel Loco and Ripsaw Cove\, with plenty of opportunities to slow down and take in the sights and sounds of the forest. With November’s changing leaves\, we’ll keep our eyes open for beautiful displays of fall color along the way. \nThis hike is a wonderful opportunity to experience a growing trail network on land that was once slated for development but is now protected as part of a 440-acre Polk County park. Come explore the mountain\, enjoy the autumn scenery\, and discover one of the area’s newer outdoor destinations! \nHikers should expect a few creek crossings\, and waterproof boots are recommended.
