DESCRIPTION:FENCE needs your help clearing invasive plants on the FENCE property. Join them for a fulfilling day of good work and companionship!  Wear long-sleeved shirts\, long pants\, and gloves\, and bring a pair of hand clippers if you have them. \nWorkdays are scheduled on the second Thursday of each month from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and will likely continue through the summer of 2026. \nVolunteers will meet at the FENCE parking lot on Hunting Country Road. For driving directions\, click here. After you turn onto the Fence property\, make a sharp right turn by the covered picnic area. Please note that while this endeavor is included on our calendar\, Conserving Carolina is not managing this activity. DESCRIPTION:Date: January 23\, 2025 \nTime: 2:00 p.m. \nLocation: Etowah Library \nSpeaker: Pam Torlina\, Community Engagement Director for Conserving Carolina \nOften we tend to think that there isn’t much to discover in nature during the dormant months of winter\, but many species of wildlife are still active and on the move\, looking for food and going from place to place. Join us to learn how to see and identify many of the tracks and signs that animals leave behind when we’re not there to see them. \nTorlina\, a biologist\, has been with the Conservancy for 18 years. She has over 25 years of experience as a field biologist\, naturalist\, and outdoor educator. She has worked with the South Carolina State Park Service\, the City of Greenville Parks and Recreation-Youth Bureau\, the New York State Office of Parks and Recreation and Historic Preservation\, and Haliburton Forest and Wild Life Reserve\, in Haliburton\, Ontario\, Canada\, where she has performed annual migratory and breeding bird surveys\, surveys on nocturnal owls\, hawks and woodpeckers\, presented educational programs on birds for adults and children\, conducted nest searches and nest record data in the U.S. and Canada\, she has volunteered with a licensed bird bander\, and she has participated in data collection for the most recent Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas and is currently a co-coordinator for the North Carolina Bird Atlas\, region 9. \n*Space is limited and pre-registration is required by visiting the Etowah Library’s calendar of events at this link.  \n \nThe Etowah Library Speaker Series programs are made possible thanks to our partnership with the Henderson County Public Library. \nContact Pam Torlina\, pam@conservingcarolina.org\, with questions or for more information.

Look for a Conserving Carolina sign to guide you to the parking area. \n\nThe Oklawaha Greenway provides a green recreational space for the City of Hendersonville and we want to make sure it stays clear of litter! We will clean up litter along Conserving Carolina’s two-mile Adopt-a-Greenway section from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM. \nVolunteers must be able to walk moderate distances (~3-miles) and may need to bend over to pick up trash. DESCRIPTION:Native Plant Garden Volunteer Team! \nDo you have an interest in native plants?  Join us Thursdays from 1pm –  4pm at Ironwood Square\, 847 Case Street in Hendersonville\, home of the Conserving Carolina office.  Over two acres has been planted with an amazing collection of native flowers\, shrubs\, trees\, and bog plants.  Volunteers are needed to maintain the extensive garden for community use and educational programming. \nNo experience needed\, but please bring gloves and gardening tools! \nPlease note that hours will change seasonally.  For the warmer months we will work from 9AM – Noon.  As the weather gets cooler we’ll work from 1:00 – 4:00PM.  The website calendar will reflect these changes. \nFor more information or to sign up contact mary@conservingcarolina.org.
