DESCRIPTION:Join the Conserving Carolina “Kudzu Warriors” as they continue the fight against Kudzu\, a non-native and invasive vine\, at the Conserving Carolina owned Norman Wilder Forest off of Hwy 176. \nThe Kudzu Warriors\, named for their hard work eradicating Kudzu on Little Warrior Mountain\, have been defending the Conserving Carolina nature preserve from Kudzu (and other exotic species) since 2011 and have made a tremendous impact on the property. Areas that were once a mat of Kudzu vines are now lush with native vegetation! But the fight is not over\, and we need your help! \nJoin us Monday from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the Norman Wilder Forest parking area/trailhead off of Hwy 176\, between Tryon and Saluda. GPS points (35.22458\, -82.27428) \nWe will supply tools and gloves\, but please bring water and a snack for yourself\, dress appropriately and bring your own work gloves if you’d like. \nTo RSVP or for more information call Pam at 828-697-5777\, ext 300 or email pam@conservingcarolina.org.

SUMMARY:A Nighttime Walk to Celebrate the Winter Solstice
DESCRIPTION:Date: December 21\, 2021 \nTime: 7:00 p.m. \nLocation: DuPont State Recreational Forest\, Hooker Falls Access Area \nTo celebrate the winter solstice – the longest night of the year – a nighttime walk to Hooker Falls will be hosted by Conserving Carolina on Tuesday\, December 21\, in DuPont State Recreational Forest\, at 7 p.m. Meet at the Hooker Falls parking lot on DuPont/Staton Road in DuPont State Recreational Forest. \nPre-registration is mandatory\, and space is limited to 30 participants. RSVP below.  There is no charge for this event. \nThe stroll will be along a one-fourth mile trail to the base of Hooker Falls. In the dark of night we’ll create soft moonlight by shining flashlights upon the falls…creating a quiet moment to celebrate the return of the sun to the northern hemisphere. \nParticipants are invited to bring a thermos with a warm (non-alcoholic) drink to toast the sun’s return when we arrive back at the parking lot. Bring a flashlight for use when necessary. The event will be cancelled in case of heavy rain\, snow\, or ice. \nIn case of inclement weather\, the website event will be updated by 12 p.m. the day of the walk if cancellation is necessary. \nFor your safety\, do not attempt any hike beyond your ability and experience. Walkers should wear appropriate clothing and footwear and plenty of water. Please be sure to bring any personal medication that you may require.
