DESCRIPTION:Riverfest is Saturday June 21\, 2025\n\n\nWhen: June 21\, 2025 \nWhere: Champion Park in Rosman \nTime: 10:00 am – 3:00 pm \n  \nThe Transylvania French Broad Stewards\, the Town of Rosman\, Conserving Carolina\, and Headwaters Outfitters are joining up again to put on the 10th annual Upper French Broad Riverfest! We invite residents and visitors to come spend a fun day celebrating the river! Join us at Champion Park in Rosman\, NC for a free\, family-friendly festival with live local music\, hands-on educational activities from many local businesses\, including: [CANCELED the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission will be there with Rocky the Hellbender – sorry!] the NC Cooperative Extension\, Gorges State Park\, the Waterfall Keepers of NC\, Brevard Clay\, Transylvania Co. Library\, Blue Ridge Audubon\, League of Women Voters\, Transylvania Co. Bird Club\, Leave No Trace\, Pisgah River Rangers – the Pisgah Conservancy\, Self-Help Credit Union\, Wai Mauna SUP Tours\, Oxbow River Snorkeling\, Boys and Girls Club of Transylvania County\, Hemlock Restoration Initiative\, Pisgah Chapter Trout Unlimited\, Gaia Herbs\, Transylvania Public Health\, Rosman Fire Department\, Earthshine Nature Programs\, Carolina Mountain Flora\, Mountains to Seas Scuba\, FIND Outdoors\, Wine to Water\, Shelly’s Laser Art\, Fixed Line Appalachia\, Vivian Rose Designs\, Transylvania County Rescue Squad\, Muddy Sneakers\, and more! And Land of Sky will power the sound system with power from the sun\, have a solar array on display\, and have EVs to check out! All of our hosts/partners will have interactive displays and educational opportunities related to the French Broad River and the plants and animals that call this region home! SUMMARY:Walnut Creek Preserve Speaker Series: Hunters in the Sky!
DESCRIPTION:Date: June 21\, 2025 \nTime: 10:30 a.m. \nPresentation Location: Anne Elizabeth Suratt Nature Center at Walnut Creek Preserve \nSpeaker: Carlton Burke\, naturalist and educator \nPredatory birds\, also known as raptors\, fascinate most people\, but living in our modern world\, these majestic birds face many obstacles to their safety and survival. Meet some live examples of birds of prey and learn more about their day-to-day struggles. This will be a great program for the whole family\, so bring the kids! \nCarlton Burke is a licensed wildlife rehabilitator who operates Carolina Mountain Naturalists\, an education service which presents a variety of wildlife and nature-related programs. He previously spent many years as the Curator of Exhibits at the Western North Carolina Nature Center and is one of the founding instructors for the Blue Ridge Naturalist Certificate program at the NC Arboretum where he presents many programs and also presently works as an environmental instructor with the non-profit organization Mountain Roots. \n  \n \nThe Walnut Creek Preserve Speaker Series programs are made possible thanks to our partnership with the Preserve. \n*Walnut Creek Preserve is private property and guests are only allowed on the property by invitation (a planned event or scheduled group).  Thank you. \nContact Pam Torlina\, pam@conservingcarolina.org\, with questions or for more information.
