Even growing up in the city of Charlotte, Yates was fortunate that his family took advantage of many active, outdoor opportunities. Yates and his brothers grew up participating in sports, running races, triathlons, camping trips, hiking, and paddling. After graduating from Appalachian State University, Yates returned to Charlotte and served as property manager and became president of Bissell Development, a commercial real estate services company that developed SouthPark and Ballantyne. He moved to Asheville and continued his commercial development career as vice president of Biltmore Farms.  With his childhood camp transitioning ownership, he made a sudden shift, although not a surprising one to those who know him, and became owner/director of Falling Creek Camp. Combining his recreational program management degree and business acumen, Yates gets to do what he loves every day – development of a different kind by providing experiences that influence lives through purposeful community.
